Taxation of Chargeable Gains Act 1992 section 289

Commencement

Section 289 sets out when the Taxation of Chargeable Gains Act 1992 comes into effect and which tax years and chargeable periods it applies to.

  • The Act applies to capital gains tax for 1992-93 and all subsequent tax years, and to other chargeable periods beginning on or after 6 April 1992.
  • Any reference in the Act to its "coming into force" should be read as meaning it takes effect from the 1992-93 tax year onwards.
  • Provisions that authorise the making of orders or other statutory instruments came into force on 6 April 1992, replacing the earlier legislation they consolidated.
  • Provisions that confer powers or impose duties spanning more than one chargeable period also came into force on 6 April 1992, unless the tax in question relates solely to periods outside the scope of this Act.
