Corporation Tax Act 2009 section 808B

Assets representing core expenditure on video games

Section 808B excludes certain intangible fixed assets held by video games development companies from the intangible fixed assets tax regime in Part 8, where those assets represent core expenditure on a video game.

  • This section concerns intangible fixed assets held by video games development companies.
  • Where such an asset represents core expenditure on a video game, the normal intangible fixed assets rules in Part 8 do not apply to it.
  • Core expenditure is defined by reference to Chapter 2 of Part 15B of the Act, which deals with the tax relief regime for video games development.
  • The effect is that these assets are carved out from the general intangible assets regime, so that they are instead dealt with under the specific video games tax relief provisions.
